Woman Knifed in Birmingham City Bus Shelter Attack Succumbs to Injuries
A woman stabbed repeatedly in the neck in an unprovoked attack at a bus stop within Birmingham has passed away, police have confirmed.
The victim, who was 34, came under attack on Smallbrook Queensway street, just outside the Bullring shopping centre, just prior to 21:00 GMT Friday evening, according to police statements.
The suspect, twenty-one, appeared before Birmingham court Monday morning, charged over the violent incident.
He was previously accused with attempted murder however after the woman's death charges were upgraded to include murder.
Law Enforcement Actions
Authorities stated officers would be around the city centre through Monday to offer reassurance, while detectives assisted the woman's family.
Detectives are appealing any eyewitnesses who may have seen Mr Rafael, who is described as a Black British national, reportedly dressed in an all-grey tracksuit, black hat, trainers and rucksack.
Attack Site Details
The knife attack occurred near Bullring retail complex, across from the main entrance of New Street railway station.
Police said they classified it as "unprovoked attack" and Det Insp James Nix said they were working to understand the motive behind.
Witness Accounts
An area worker, employed in the vicinity, recounted paramedic and police activity after completing her work period at about 22:00 on Friday.
She characterized the location as extremely disorderly, adding that some of her colleagues heard loud disturbances around 9 PM.
"A lot of co-workers use transit services, take the tram... our security is compromised essentially, in the downtown area."
Another individual, twenty-five, from Stoke-on-Trent, said he came to Birmingham fairly regularly to see his girlfriend resident there, and was concerned about what had happened.
"It makes me worried for my girlfriend," he stated.
"She doesn't drive and works at major concert locations... considering a totally random act [happened], understandably, it's horrible."
